Canal Society of NJ Program Meeting: A History of Inventing in New Jersey
The Canal Society of New Jersey will host its program meeting at 7 p.m. in its headquarters, 35 Waterview Blvd., Parsippany, featuring Linda Barth, author of "A History of Inventing in New Jersey, from Thomas Edison to the Ice Cream Cone."
The Canal Society offers both virtual and in-person options. RSVP for the in-person meeting or register for the meeting online at CanalSocietyNJ.org.
Doors will be open at 6:30 p.m.; sandwiches and snacks will be served, and you can tour the office and archives. The meeting will take place in the cafeteria at 7 p.m.
Canal Society of NJ Walking Series
A new monthly Canal Society of New Jersey walking series, in partnership with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, will explore the connections between the Morris Canal Greenway and the Essex-Hudson Greenway.
The 3-mile route begins on the Morris Canal Greenway from Wright's Field to JFK Drive near Beach Street, then continues onto the Essex-Hudson Greenway back to Wright's Field.

Olde Suckasunny Day
Join the Canal Society of New Jersey as Main Street comes alive for Olde Suckasunny Day, a free community celebration in Succasunna from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Enjoy food, local vendors, crafts, games, live performances, and the library book sale — all while marking America’s 250th Anniversary and Roxbury Township’s Revolutionary history.

The grounds of Waterloo Village, 526 Waterloo Road, Stanhope, are open from dawn to dusk. Admission is free.
Tours are available Saturdays and Sundays from June to September and the Visitor Interpretive Center is open from May to October, between 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Heritage Museum at Meadow Breeze Park
The Heritage Museum at Meadow Breeze Park, which includes a Morris Canal Room, is open with free admission the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month.
The Morris Canal (1824-1924) provided an outlet to markets for farms, manufactures and mines and so helped to fuel the industrial revolution. The canal linked Pennsylvania’s coal fields with New Jersey’s iron industry and New York’s commercial markets.
The Morris Canal was an engineering marvel and champion mountain climber that passed through our backyard on its 102-mile journey from Phillipsburg to Jersey City. Construction tools and methods were primitive; the pick, shovel and wheelbarrow, with horse and wagon, were the main tools. Find out what made the canal unique in the world.

Boonton Day
The Canal Society of NJ will be at Boonton Day when it returns to Main Street from noon to 4 p.m. Presented by Boonton Parks & Recreation, this annual celebration brings residents, families, and local businesses together for an afternoon of live music, food vendors, craft and business booths, and activities for every age.

The Pathways of History
Spend a fall Sunday on the Morris Canal as the Canal Society of New Jersey opens Lock 2 East at Hugh Force Park as part of Pathways of History, Morris County’s guide to local museum and site tours. Walk the restored stone lock chamber, see how canal boats once climbed their way across New Jersey, and talk with the volunteers who keep the canal’s story alive. No tickets or registration necessary — just come by anytime between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
